HomeMy WebLinkAbout022416_DelMeade proclamation FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 24, 2016 Contact: Preeti Shridhar, Deputy Public Affairs Administrator, 425-430-6569 Mayor Recognizes Special Service of City Volunteer 93 year old Renton resident has brightened City Hall for 16 years RENTON, WA — On Monday, February 23, Mayor Denis Law presented a proclamation declaring February 24, 2016 to be “Del Mead Day” in the city of Renton, to honor City Hall volunteer Del Mead in recognition of her 16 years of service. Del and her late husband John move to the Renton area in 1955 when John secured work at Boeing, and Del has been involved in the community ever since. Del was a founding member of the Renton Clothes Bank in 1965, serving in various board positions, and currently holds President Emeritus status. Del joined Soroptimist International of Renton in 1973, and has held every leadership position within the organization, including Parliamentarian and President, and currently holds Life Member status. After serving as Renton’s own City Clerk for 23 years and retiring in 1982, Del came back to City Hall in 2000 as a volunteer, greeting visitors and staff at the City Hall Information Desk. In honoring her, Mayor Law proclaimed “Del personifies and exemplifies embracing a zest for life.” Del celebrated her 93rd birthday on January 29, 2016. Mayor Law encourages all citizens, staff, and City officials to thank Del for her dedication, graciousness, helpfulness, talent, professionalism, and ambassadorship to and on behalf of the City of Renton.
