Duvall Avenue NE Pavement Preservation Project

Extends Life of Pavement by 12-15 years
Daytime lane restrictions will be in effect along with three night-time closures
The City of Renton began a pavement preservation project on Duvall Avenue between NE 4th Street and
NE 10th Street on July 25, 2016. The project is expected to be completed in the fall.
The project will extend the life of pavement by 12 to 15 years and includes:
Resurfacing Duvall Avenue between NE 4th Street and NE 10th Street
Constructing landscaped center medians just south of NE 6th Street and just south of NE 8th
Street
Installing radar speed signs
Duvall Avenue NE is classified as a principal 4-lane arterial that serves as an alternate route to I-405
connecting Renton to Newcastle and Bellevue.
Construction work will be performed during daytime from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. There will be short-
term daytime closures and reduced travel lanes on Duvall Avenue NE from NE 4th Street to NE 10th
Street from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A full closure of Duvall Avenue NE for approximately 600 feet from NE
4th Street north from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. is planned for up to three nights during the week of August
29, 2016. Detour routes will be available on both Union Avenue NE, west of Duvall Avenue NE, and
Hoquiam Avenue NE, east of Duvall Avenue NE.
The project is following strict noise abatement guidelines. All construction and stationary equipment,
such as light plants, generators, compressors, and jackhammers will utilize noise mitigation shields, noise
blankets, skirts, or other means available. Truck trailing banging is prohibited as is scraping activities.
Pavement milling will be permitted for approximately 600 feet from NE 4th Street north during the full
closure of Duvall Avenue NE. Paving activities will be permitted throughout the project at night.
