Entertainment will be provided by Coco Loco. “We set aside this day every year to encourage our citizens to volunteer and support charitable causes, perform good deeds, or engage in other service activities,” said Renton Mayor Denis Law. This is marks the seventh consecutive year the city has hosted a day of service to honor and remember the victims and first responders of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The city has identified several volunteer opportunities throughout the city. To find one of interest and to register, please visit JustServe.org and enter “Renton” into the search box. Some of the opportunities include: • Sort and organize donations at The Salvation Army, Renton Food Bank • Beautify parks owned by City of Renton and King County Parks Department • Assist at the King Conservation District, Garden of Goo, Native Plant Nursery • Prepare for the Mayor’s Day of Concern for the Hungry at the Emergency Feeding Program • Install curb markers for Storm Drain Marking Project • C.A.S.T. for Kids Fishing Education Shore Activity at Gene Coulon Park • Beautify grounds at Renton Housing Authority About the National Day of Service The September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance is the culmination of an effort launched in 2002 by 9/11 family members and support groups. In 2009, Congress designated September 11th as a National Day of Service and Remembrance and charged the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) with supporting this effort across the country.
