Introduction of inembers to Guy:All present members gave a quiek introduction of themselves, and shared what drives them to be a part of the Human Services Advisory Committee. 4. Look at 2017 and beyond a.) Purpose of committee Purpose of committee will be discussed when mission/vision statement is ereated. b.) Mission/Vision Guy will draft a few statements and we will do some strategic brainstorming on values, develop a purpose statement. e.) Expectations Teresa asked if committee is able to visit ageneies. This way they are able to get a more in depth idea of what programs the agency runs. Brooke asked who would want to visit agencies.Or,should we have agencies come here during our Human Advisory Committee meetings? They would be able to talk about what their ageneies provides. If so, we would have met 12 agencies in one year. Krista thought committee eould try out an "Adopt an agency" program?Committee would learn more about one ageney, and during our month meeting, they could teaeh us what was learned. Brooke stated that this was done a few years back but didn't turn out as expected.Teresa had an idea of having an event with all agencies, where they could do a presentation about what their ageney provides.Which would give eommittee a chance to ask questions. When reviewing applications,we can read statistics but we don't really know who they are, and what exaetly agency provides to our eommunity.Joanie agreed that we should get to know all of our agencies, but also thinks that eommittee needs to be careful. Other agencies might see that we are engaging with another agency more than theirs, and may think that would be the reasoning of City of Renton giving them less funds.Tina added that she would take the lead on planning a resource fair before sehool gets out.Agencies will be able to help community while committee are able to ask questions. This resource fair will then be geared more towards the community.Tina will contact either RCC or the Senior Center. Karen informed eommittee that Valley Medical is hosting a Homeless Fair in September 2017. d.) Attendance 4 meetings missed a year. Let Brook, Dianne or Guy know if you will miss a meeting. e.) Recruitment Currently have 3 opening in our committee, 1 youth and 2 adult.Announcement is open from now until February 15,2017 on City of Renton website. Interviews will be held end of February.Teresa asked for youth, what the term is,should this youth be a senior in high school, or a college student? Brook states that committee is flexible with time. Karen added that there is no term limit. Guy believes that our youth member should attend high school, 15years old, at least of driving age.Tina thinks with working families, 3-5 p.m. is not a feasible time.Committee will go over youth description during next month committee meeting before sending our putting on website. Human Advisory Committee currently has 6 applications in. f.) Goals and accomplishment—knowledge of agencies Will re-visit during next meeting 5.) Third quarter narrative—of values; or do year—end? Committee would like narratives once a quarter, and sent by mail. 6.) Under performing agencies in 2016 Date Wise;they could not get in schools before January 2017 Valley Cities; Staff over turn 7.) Briefing on Cold Weather Shelter Old Chamber building on Rainier Ave.Shelter was open for 16 nights. Human Senrices was budgeted for maximum 18 nights. Furnace is not working and electrical is not really good.Shelter opens from 8 p.m.to 7 a.m. and snacks are provided.A number of questions were raised about shelter operations and will be addressed. If we have 30 beds, how do we contain this?5hould shelter only be for Renton residence? What criteria should we use to open? Our ratio now is 1:30.Sheila thinks that an ID should be provided before entering shelter. The ration should be 1:15, have more qualified volunteer staff.5afer for kids, women and men. Guy also added, that Renton should not have been the only shelter that was open.We were not aware that other emergency shelters were not open. Res ctfully submitted, `,,..
