The north end of the pro je ct c onnects to parks and o pen s pace , including Re nto n High Scho o l. The c entral s ection is the co mmerce area that co nnec ts with the Pavilio n Event Center, P iaz z a, P ublic Marke t, Farmer's Marke t, and the Civic Core P lan's Logan Ave Fe s tival Stre et. The s outh end co nnec ts to mixe d-us e , ho us ing, and So uth Renton trans it cente r. Non-mo to riz e d e lements o f the project will improve the north-s outh co nne ctivity o f the re gional trail s ys tem, s uch as Lake Was hington Lo op Trail, Cedar Rive r Trail, Lake to Sound Trail, and Burne tt Trail; as we ll as upgrade the exis ting pede s trian network to c urre nt ADA s tandards . Currently, the re are no bike facilitie s along B urnett Ave S and this pro je ct would help create a s afer connectio n to exis ting well-utiliz ed trails . Curre ntly, the re are 12 ro ute s making hundre ds o f trips a day through the Rento n's Regio nal Gro wth Center. T he So und Trans it ro ute s s e rve as the majo r re gional pro vider s erving multiple re gional centers in s outh and eas t King County. Some o f the Metro ro ute s s erve lo w inc ome and mino rity po pulations in the Skyway area (no rthwe s t Renton) with hundre ds bo arding within the pro je ct limits . T his pro je ct would improve the us e r experience of tho s e us ing trans it. The new trans it center in the vic inity o f the exis ting South Re nton Park & Ride expands the re ach o f an active trans portatio n s ys te m. Within that area, I-405, SR 900, SR 167, SR 169 , SR 515 will be co nne c te d thro ugh Expres s Bus , Rapid Ride, Bus Rapid Trans it, and Rapid Ride. The Tukwila Sounder s tatio n is als o in clos e pro ximity. T he Re nton Co nnec to r will be an entry po int into the Do wntown Core from the new trans it cente r and will play an important ro le in es tablis hing multi-mo dal co nnectivity be twe en trail and trans it ne two rks . 4. Safety The Renton Co nne ctor pro je ct reduce s the conflicts betwe e n the mode s of trans po rtatio n. Having a s e parated cycle track as well as a multi-us e path, de cre as es the leve l o f s tres s that will be e xpe rienced by the us e rs o f the facilitie s . T he project increas es s afety by s eparating the mode s but als o incre as e s ove rall he alth by improving the us er experie nce o ve r the entire co rridor. T his pro ject impro ves the e xis ting co nditio ns o f the ro adway s ignificantly by addre s s ing the inte rs e ctio n cros s ings and upgrading c urb ramps to current ADA s tandards as we ll as c re ating an e nvironme nt mo re vis ually interes ting. In the las t 5 years , there have be e n 32 co llis io n within the pro je c t corrido r. Howe ver, 75% of the co llis ions were inte rs ection related and of tho s e, 58% we re caus ed due to inattention o r dis regard fo r Stop/Go light. T he traffi c s ignaliz atio n impro ve me nts at e ach inte rs ection cros s ings s hould help addre s s thes e is s ues . 5. P SRC's Inte ractive Re s ource Map s hows data of 42% to 58% minority populatio n living within and s urro unding the pro ject. Acco rding to the P SRC map, 21% to 33% o f the ho us e ho lds live belo w the fede ral pove rty line, and 11% to 14% are dis able d citiz ens . 15% to 19% o f the po pulatio n s urrounding the project are s e nior c itiz e ns . Acc ording to the P SRC map for P uge t So und the area s urro unding B urnett Ave S (the Rento n Connecto r) is within a LOW OP P ORT UNIT Y area. Since B urnett Ave S is a ke y co rridor fo r acces s to trans it, an analys is fo r thos e within ¼ of a mile s hows who has acces s to the s tree t and who wo uld mo s t like ly be in nee d of a multi- modal trans portatio n s ys te m. T he cens us blo cks with the ACS 5 Ye ar Es timate (2012-2016) Cens us data co nve ys the following po pulation gro ups within ¼ mile walking dis tance: minority (63%), low inco me (26% at o r be lo w poverty level), and working po or (42% at o r belo w twice po verty line ). Of the po pulation analyz ed, 18% are adults (ages 18+) living with a dis ability and 12% are s e nior adults (age s 65+).
