Meeting Minutes
City Hall, Council Conference Room
January 21, 2015 "' 5:30 p.m.
I. [ALL TO ORDER
Vice-Chair Erica Richey called the meeting to order at 5:35 p.m.

11. APPROVAL QF AGENDA
A motian was made by�aurie Beden to amend the agenda ta ha�e Frer� Gurney/John Sheller
with iCing County tibrary Systems (KCLSJ present first, seconded hy Suzi Ure. All were in favor,
motion carried, amended agenda approved.
ill. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Laurie Beden made a motion to appro�e December 2014 minutes, Suzi Ure secanded. All
were in fa�or, matian carried, minutes ap�ro�ed as written.
IIIOTE: Lynne King physically corrected the December Minutes wirh a spelling correction ta her
name.

V. BOA}�p COMMUNICATiON5
It was noted that,x is is Suzi Ure's last meeting. She is relaca#ing and therefare resigned her
Board seat. The ard is actively seeking applicatians to frll the position. The Board grea#ly
appreciates the time and dedication Suzi has gi�en and wishes good luck in her future
endeavors.
VI. [!TY REPORT/Terry Hi�ashivama, Peter Renner
Peter ad�ised that the contractor for the Liber#y Park Library, CE & C, Inc., will be constructing
the Hig�lands Library. Ne said they are making great progress at the L�berty Park Ribrary and
work is speeding-up. Peter said they have run into a smal! complica#ion with the ou#side wall
insulation and the fire resis#ant materials. Since there is so much construction in the region,
they are having trouble getting#he materials. They are now laoking at a wider�eld for a
solution. We said #he can5truction is going very well and there a�e na issues causing iarge
o�erruns. John Shelling shar�d a �ew pictures of the tonstruction site.

Peter discussed the upgrade to the sur�eiflance cameras in the Liberty ParEc area. He added
ti�ere �o cameras on the Library building itself per King Caunty's request. Peter said the
coverage areas have increased to include the Liberty Pa�k Com unity Building,the tennis
caurt area and 200 Mill b�aildi�g side of the parlc. ���s �
Peter discussed the progress at the Highlands Library sit� and said the floars and columns
have bee� poured with about 235 yards af concrete in one pour. They will be pouring ti�e
floar post tensions for the ceiling and garage flaor in February.
Terry commented that the Sunset Master Plan has been�nalized and hard capies are now
a�ailable. Most af the area property has been purchased with demolition to start soon.
Vll. KCIS REPORT/lOHN SH�l.EER
John Sheller was formally introduced to the Board and it was Qxplained haw he will be
warking with the Board as KCLS main liaison and Fred Gurney will still support the board and
occasionaUy attend the meetings. They briefly shared their roles with lohn invol�ed with
Operations as the Cfuster Manager and Fred in�ol�ed in Services as the Library 5errrice
Manager. Fred ad�ised he will be talking with different community groups and asking
questions to look at areas and servFces. He asked #he group about the community they serve,
the major needs/prohlems, how tv help the community in need #or a better life, 5ervices
providers anci groups, and wha KCiS should be talking to, i.e. what other groups. Fred said
they wil[get �ornmunity input throughout January, in �ebruary they will de�elop strategies
and in Marc� they wil! initiate their plans.
John shared informa#ion on recen# programs and events with Casper Babypants recently at
the Renton Cammunity Center; always a great turnout for this perfarmer! We said there
continues#o be high participatian at the Highlands Library. He also men#ioned tF�at the new
director, Gary Wasdin, would e�entually liice ta meet with all Library boards.
VIII. OLD BUSINESS
The topic of Goals/Objec#ives was moved to#he March meeting.
IX. NEW BU51NE55—L nne Kin
Erica Richey was nominated elected the new Boarc� Chair an� Catherine Ploue-Smith was
nominated and elected as the new Vice Chair.
X. INFORMATION
The Board Agenda mee#ings has moved from Friday5 to Wednesdays. Terry advised that one
application has been recei�ed for the Board opening with ad��rti5ing to con#inue until the
�eat is�illed. Catherine ad�ised she will not be able to attend the February meeting.
