BOARD OF TRUSTEES
RENTON HISTORY December12,2017

Attending: Laura Clawson, Pete Kalasountas, Jessica Kelly, Lynne King, Betsy Prather, and
Elizabeth P. Stewart.
Absent: Antoin Johnson, Colleen Lenahan.
Unexcused: Alexis Madison.
Call to Order
In President Alexis Madison's absence, Vice President Betsy Prather called the meeting to
order at 6:15 PM.
Consent A�enda (Vice President) Action Item
A quorum was present. The Board agreed to dispense with the Consent Agenda to move to
discussion of the 2018 budget.
Old Business Action Items
(1) Budget 2018: Museum Director Liz Stewart circulated the 2018 budget updated with
changes discussed at the November Board meeting.
• MOTION: Laura Clawson moved to give the Public Engagement Coordinator a raise of
$.25 an hour and the Curator of Collections and Exhibitions a raise of$.50 an hour, as
discussed in November; Lynne King seconded. Motion passed, none opposed, none
abstaining.
Lynne King pointed out that trustees agreed on the need for greater fundraising in order to
keep the budget balanced, and Colleen Lenahan is interested in working on a sponsorship
policy which will help with that. Board agreed that the fundraising goal should be set at $22,000
instead of$20,000. Trustees will discuss fundraising goal at the Board retreat in January or
February.
• MOTION: Lynne King moved to approve the 2018 budget, with the addition of$2000 to
general ledger code #1.60, for a total of$22,000; Pete Kalasountas seconded. Motion
passed, none opposed, none abstaining.
Discussion Action Items
(1) Succession planning: Betsy Prather welcomed new trustee Jessica Kelly to her first meeting
as a Board member. Jessica is prepared to work with Treasurer Laura Clawson toward a
transition into the Treasurer's role, after which Laura will retire to a regular trustee's position in
June. Lynne King asked to see the Board roster of terms; Liz will bring it to the January meeting
for discussion. Laura will hold an orientation for new trustees Colleen Lenahan, Pete
