RENTON MUNICIPAL ARTS COMMISSION MINUTES—August 14,2017 Members Present: Mary Clymer, Mitch Shepherd, Adrienne La Faye, Neil Sheesley, Bill Huls, Marsha Rollinger, Samantha Goetz-Granquist, Su Gow and Evelyn Reingold Members Excused: Ben Andrews, Dave Samek and Jerri Everett Staff Present: Elizabeth Higgins, RMAC Staff Liaison,Jessie Kotarski RMAC Administrative Assistant and Chip Vincent, Administrator-City of Renton Department Community& Economic Development Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by RMAC-Chair, Mitch Shepherd at 6:05 pm. Approval of Minutes: Minutes of the July 11, 2017 were read and accepted. MSC(Mary/Adrienne) Correspondence and Announcements: *RMAC meeting will be brief as members will join the City Council meeting to receive the Governor's Smart Communities Award for partnership with the City of Renton for Galvanizing Art Projects. Mitch, Mary and Marsha will accept the award on behalf of the RMAC. A reception, hosted by the Community& Economic Development department will Immediately follow the presentation of the award. *The Renton Civic Theater will host a Gala to showcase its new renovations on September 14, 2017, 5:00—9:00 pm. *Other-Correspondence and event folders were circulated for individual review. New Business: No new Galvanizing Art Projects were presented. Old Business: *Outdoor Gallery Art Project-Adrienne reported that the art has been installed on the West wall on the Smoking Monkey Pizza Building. The allocation for the project needs to be amended to add $780.00 to include the cost of a lift. MSC(Bill/Evelyn) * Renton Multi-Cultural Event— Update: Sam has been attending meetings to plan the event which is scheduled for September 23 & 24, 2017. It will be a celebration of Renton's many cultures and artists. RMAC will have a table. The theme will be confirmed at next meeting. Jessie and Elizabeth will find out if RMAC handouts can be translated by multi-lingual city staff. *4Culture Grant—Discussion of use of the$10,000 grant for RMAC marketing; subsidizing tickets, or transportation to events to improve access to arts and culture in the City of Renton. Specific events such as: Allied Arts Fall Family Concert, Renton Civic Theater performances, Renton Youth Orchestra, and the Evergreen Ballet were mentioned. Emails will be sent to notify organizations of availability of funds for access to art and culture events *Dragon Project—Update: Marsha and Elizabeth reported that the City Council approved the project concept. The location will be at the Western Hotel on 3rd street, between Wells and Williams. The design is being finalized. Suggested that the Renton Reporter do a sequel of the installation process.
