HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/13/2018 - Minutes � • � � � � 1 � � 1 � Retreat Minutes Tuesday, February 13, 2018 Members Present Mitch Shepherd, Mary Clymer, Adrienne La Faye, Samantha Goetz-Granquist, Neil Sheesley, Ben Andrews, Marsha Rollinger, Kim Patterson, Su Gow, Dave Samek and Evelyn Reingold, Bill Huls Staff Present Elizabeth Higgins, RMAC Staff Liaison - City of Renton, CED Jessie Kotarski, RMAC Administrative Assistant, City of Renton, CED Chip Vincent, City of Renton, Administrator, CED Angie Mathias, City of Renton, Long Range Planner, CED Election of Officers • Mitch Shepherd stepped down from the position of Chair, and announced his resignation, effectively immediately, from the Arts Commission. • Mary Clymer stepped down from the position of Vice Chair. • Evelyn Reingold retains her position as Secretary. o A motion was made to transfer the duty of minute taking [at the Commission meetings] to Jessie Kotarski, as a function of the position of the Admin Assistant. Evelyn will serve as the back-up minute-taker. MSC (Mary/Bill) • Bill Huls was nominated to serve as Vice Chair. MSC (Evelyn/Sam) • Bill Huls' appointment as Vice Chair was brought to a vote and his election confirmed by a consensus vote. MSC (Mitch/Evelyn) • Neil Sheesley was nominated to serve as Chair. MSC (Mitch/Sam) Reor�anization of the RMAC There was a brief discussion about reorganizing the RMAC, which was initially brought up at the January meeting. The RMAC is more closely aligned with the Economic Development Division of Community and Economic Development and that may instigate some changes. In addition, there is some question about how effective the RMAC at times. A potential new appointment process for Arts Commissioners could be adopted whereby they would be expected to express their interest in continuing to serve and demonstrate their involvement in RMAC events and projects in the community. 2 � � z _, w Summary of Current Resources • The remaining balance of$2,309 in the 2017 budget will be requested to be carried over to 2018. • The 2018 budget includes $2,900 allotted to the administration of the Arts Commission and $50,000 for Arts & Culture Projects. Arts & Culture Master Plan • Chip Vincent addressed the need to replace the City's Arts and Culture Master Plan created in 2010. The recommendation is to create a new plan and not attempt to revise the existing plan. The City [Community & Economic Development Department] has offered to commit funding from their budget for professional services to hire a consultant to work with the public and Arts community in Renton to develop a new plan that encompasses public interest and design guidelines outlined in the City Center and Civic Core plans.
