City of Renton Utility Billing Direct Debit Authorization
This method of payment automatically pays your utility bill by electronic transfer of funds from a checking or
savings account and applies the payment directly to your utility account. By signing up for this option, you will still
receive a billing statement, however your utility bill payment will be automatically deducted from your bank
account on your bill’s listed due date. This payment option eliminates postage, check costs, and late fees. Tenants
are not eligible for this service; the owner is the main account holder, and banks only see the owner’s name.
WILL I STILL RECEIVE A BILLING STATEMENT?
Account holders signed up for direct debit will continue to receive a billing statement that reflects the amount
due, due date, and the date the account will be charged. NOTE: continue to pay your bill as usual until you
receive a billing statement that says: “Direct Debit – Do Not Pay”.
WHAT IF I WANT TO STOP AUTOMATIC PAYMENTS?
You may cancel your direct debit authorization at any time. To cancel, provide written notification to utility
billing at least 2 weeks prior to the next billing.
WHAT IF MY PAYMENT IS RETURNED?
If payment is returned, the payment amount plus a returned item fee of $25 will be added to your account.
CAN I USE A CREDIT CARD?
Credit cards cannot be used for direct debit. If you would like to use a credit card for payments, you can sign up
for autopay online at www.rentonwa.gov/City-Services/Utilities/Utility-Billing
HOW DO I SIGN UP?
Complete this form and attach a voided check for withdrawals from checking accounts or a voided deposit slip
for withdrawals from savings accounts. Mail the completed form with voided check or voided deposit slip to:
