Cynthia Burns, Chair Pro Tem, ca�led the August 2D01 meeting to order at 4:30 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Marge Richter made a motion seconded by Ron Regis to approve the Jufy minutes as written. Alf were
in favor, motion carried, minutes approved.
CORRESPONDENCE
Jim Shepherd reviewed a letter recei�ed from Robert S. McMahon challenging the park rules and
regulations sectian prohibiting weapons in city parks. Jim consulted the city attomey's office and
responded to Mr. McMahon's concems. In the �ear future we wiil be re�ising the park rules and
regulations and incorporate cY�anges clarifying this section and any other needed revisions.
CONSENT
Jim reviewed the following l�tters:
a) Carol Weigel reserrred the creekside shelter at Gene Coulon Park on August 21St for a 50tn
birthday party and requested to use a micropi�one. She would li�ce to sing for approximately 6
minutes in cel�bration of her husband's birthday. Staff recommends approval but the
microphone must be kept at t�e lowest level.
b) Polly Freeman, Community Stewardship Specialist, King County Water and Land Resources
Division, requested use of the shelter at Riverview Park on October 13, 20, 27, 28t�' and
November 4"' �rom 11:00 a.m. until 4:0� p.m. and waiver of fees. Staff recommends
appror►al of this request.
c) Debbie Ehlers requested to plant a tree and a plaque along the Cedar River Trail in
recognition of her father, Don McEntyre. Dan recently retired from the parks department after
28 years of setvice, Staff recommends appro�al of this request.
�} Kim Browney KNA President requested use of Kennyt�ale Lions Park on Wednesday, Aug�st
29i�' from 2:00-9:00 p.m. T�is group has Used our facilities previously and abided by the park
ru�es and regulations. Staff recommended approval. Norma, Neig�borhood Volunteer
Coordinator, will coordinate the inflatable set-up, opening and closing of restroams and use of
the dunk tank, if appra�ed by Risk Management.
e) Paul Hayes, Valley Medical Center, reserved the narth shelter at Coulon Park on Saturday,
� September �5t" for their employee picnic. They expect approximately 44� attendees
staggered o�er the cours� o#the day. Staf� recommended appro�al of this request
cont�ngent on coordina#ion with Da�e Per�cins.
f) Brenda Courtade requested to use a Castle Jumper at Ri�erview Park on August 25th for her
son's birthday party. 5taff recommended appro�al and will coardinat� the location and
receip� of fnsu�ance certificate.
Ron Regis made a motion seconded by Marge Richter to approve the consent agenda with staff
recommenda#ions. All present were in �a�or, motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS
Randy Lei#er reviewed increases for the driving range. H� also discussed the demolition of the
c�ubhouse and the upcoming rating of the course in September. Randy re�iewed eac� fee change and
provided information on comparable fees at other�ocal courses.
Ron Regis made a motion seconded by Michael O'Donin to appro�e #he increases.
Sylvia Allen reviewed the policy conceming fee changes. There was discussion regarding �erbiage: A
motion was made by Ron Regis an� seconded by Ralph E�ans to approve the policy with the change of
wording to say °above direct program cosfs", Alf were in fa�or, policy appro�ed.

Skatepark
Recent problems at the skatepark �ere discussed. The staff is working with the library and police to
resolve these problems.
Jim 5hepherd announced that Tim Searing was the recipient of the River Days 2001 Outstanding
S�rrrice Award.
