Michael O'Donin seconded the motion, all were in favor, motion carried. ANNOUNCEMENTS Jim Shepherd announced the retirement of Parks Maintenance Lead, Richard Doss, and in�ited the Board to atter�d a cake and coffee in his honor on February 27, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Renton Community Center. He also announced the appointment of our new Parks Mai�tenance Manager, Terry Flat�ey. CONSENT Jim revie�ed #he consent items and staff recommendations as noted: City of Renton Park Board Minutes January 8, 2002 A} Yamilena Ramirez requestEd to ha�e her wedding outside the Senior Acti�ity Center on A�gust 31, 2p02. The couple has tY�e senior center reserved for their w�dding reception. 5taff recommends appro�al contingent on coardination of the final arrangements with Shawn Daly, Senior Center Coordinatar. B) Leila Lau, Washington Mutual Business Banking, requested use of the Renton Comm�nity Center parking lot on Wednesday, February 27, 2002. They have 35-40 cars that would be arriving between fi:30-7:OD a.m. and retuming at 6:30-7:00 p.m. that e�ening. A bus wiil pick up th�ir clients for a day of skiing at Crystal Mountain. Staff recommends appro�al o�this request. C} Sharon Kenyon, Renton CROPWALK Coordinator for REACH, has requested waiver of fees for Cedar Ri�er Park and Riverview Park shelt�r on May 5, 2002, during their annual CROPWALK. The Renton CROPWALK is one of 2,000 walks throughout the USA, through Church World 5ervices, a non-profit world hunger organization. The group has done this in years past and always complied with city rules and regulations to ensure a safe event. The normal shelter fee would be $40 for each shelter, for a total of $80.00. A certificate of insurance naming the city as co-insured will be provided prior to the event. 5taff recommends appro�al of this request. D) Arlene Fraser submitted a request on beF�alf of her daughter, Amy, and her fiancee. They would like to hold their wedding ceremony on the Senior Center grounds on Saturday, August 3, 2002. The couple has reserved the center for their wedding reception. They have been ad�ised of park rules and regulations and staff recommends approval of this request contingent an coordination with SE�awn Daly. E) REACH (Renton Ecumenical Association of Churches) has requested us� of #he north shelter at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park for their Easter 5unrise Serrrice on March 3i st. They anticipate 60-100 people and the service is open to anyone in the community. They are requesting waiver of the normal $�00 fee. Staff recommends approval. F) LyneZl Smith, Advance Capital, inc., req�es#ed to use the community center parking lot on Thursday, March 21, 2002. They are taking a ski gro�p to Crystal Mountain and would like their guests to meet tF�e bus in our parking lot. They anticipate 45-50 cars arriving at 7:3� a.m. and leaving at 5:30 p.m. S#aff recommends approval of this request. G) Marlene Rose requested wai�er of fees for the sixth annual Renton Youth Day on April 27, 2002, at Ca�co Theatr� and the Rentan Community Center. Staff recommends appro�a[ of waiver of fees for this event, which are City of Rento� Fark Baard Minutes 1an��ary 8, 2002 estimated at $2,735.00. H) Stuart Nelson reserved the Senior Center on August 10, 2002, for a wedding rec�ption, HE has requested to hold the wedding ceremony outside the center. Staff recommends appror►al of this request. !) Brian Richardsor� requested use of the north shelter a� Gene Co�alon Memorial Beach Park to hold his wedd�ng ceremony and reception on Saturday, April 20, 2002. Staff recommends approval contingent on payment of the all-day rate for the shelter and agreement to comply with park rules and regulatians. Ralph E�ans requested clarification on item E, nating a waiver of fees wasn't addressed in their letter. Sandy explained they had faxed in the letter at the last minute and the applicant was new and unfamiliar with the process. She was aware they make this request for a f�e wai�er on a yearly basis so included it. She will phone Pastor Colman and request a� amended fetter including the req�est for waiver of fees. Ron Regis made a motion to concur witi� staff recommenda�ion on consent items A thru I and approve ti�e re�uests wit� conditions as noted. Marge Richter seconded the motion, all present were in ta�or, matior� carri�d. The consent agenda was appro�ed. OLD BUSINESS At#he January meeting a request was made to see a fee schedule of the charges for the park shelters, use of the community center, etc. A pac�Cet was mailed out for re�iew. Jim asked if the board had any questions on the fees or tE�e draft comprehensive plan distributed at the January meeting. There were none. Troy signed the resolutian approving changes in the park rul�s and regulations that were appro�ed at the November 2001 mee#ing. NEW BUSINESS Cynthia Bums requested details on the new initiati�es outlined in the Mayor's State of the City presentatian. There were sevefal questions about the Veterans' Park, the new maintenar�ce facility and the pool. What typE of pool wousd be built, what would be the lacation, prajected dates, etc. Mr. Shepherd explain�d that the city w�uld fook at funding options to manage these projects and will discuss them with Council at the Council retreat the last week of February. Sylvia Allen gave an accreditation update explaining the `official' report would come from the committee in Wasf�ingtvn DC at the end of February. The vi�itation team only outlined items that would be in their report, b�t ou# of 156 standards only one was not met. Leslie Betlach addressed one question regarding the hanging basket program for the next y�ar. She explained we had the same amount of money to work with as 2001.
