Maryjane Van Cleave added that the event will be held in the immediate vicinity of the library, but it is yet to be determined whether they will be able to use turf areas. This depends on grass and how well the seed takes; so there are still questions on turf use and where the celebration will be held. The area is large enough to have the event on hard surface if necessary. The staff will keep the board updated as the time nears. A short discussion followed pertaining ta the "Friends of the Library" and the board members indicated that it would be a gaod idea to farmally invite this committee to one af the RtAB meetings after the first of the year. Amy Eggler added that a presentation on "Callection Development and How KCLS Does/t"might be a good presentation ta have at this meeting. VI1. BOARD UPDATES AND PROGRESS Lynne King stated that she attended the KCLS Library Board Forum recently. There were 3 people in attendance from Bellevue and 1 from Mercer Island. Not too many peaple showed at the meeting; however the one common issue among those attending was that the city library boards are struggling with what to do for goals and what their purpose is (where the committee is going in the future). Another topic discussed at the forum was City Council presentations and determining good elements of what boards present ta their City Councils. Lynne felt that the RLAB does a good job of presenting to the Council for their annual report. Lynne said those attending the forum also questioned whether they should continue to have the farums if attendance is so low. The group still thought the meetings were useful even though they are not well attended. The graup discussed the possibility of having a bigger graup meeting at the KCS Service Center instead of a library location. Kim Unit asked if Lynne learned anything at the forum about what otheribrary Boards are doing. Lynne mentioned that they are changing the law to add two new members to the Board of Trustees for KCLS. Amy Eggler added that KCLS hopes to broaden their representation to have more insight and diversity among the Board of Trustees. X.
