CALL TO ORDER-In Attendance: Members: Cynthia Burns,AI Dieckman, Larry Reymann,Tim Searing, Shun Takano, and Troy Wigestrand Absent: Marlene Winter City Staff: Kelly Beymer, Community Services Administrator, Leslie Betlach, Parks Planning and Natural Resources Director � Guest:Chris Burns Chair Tim Searing called the meeting to order at 3:45pm. Roll call was taken. All board commissioners were present except for Marlene Winter. Marlene had previously contacted city staff of her absence,so her absence is excused. 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Cynthia Burns made a motion to approve the agenda as presented,Troy Wigestrand seconded; all were in favor, motion carried, and the agenda was approved. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Larry Reymann motioned to approve the minutes as presented;AI Dieckman seconded, all were in favor, motion carried,and the June minutes were approved. 4. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS/PUBLIC COMMENTS Guest Chris Burns inquired about art projects, Kelly will forward his name and contact info to the Arts Commission for follow up. 5. DISCUSSION/ACTION ITEMS a. Tour Kenyon Dobson Park Property and May Creek Trail: Discussed the acquisition of the Kenyon Dobson property,the potential future use of the building and property as a connection to the adjacent trails. Leslie also provided information and discussion on related topics to the existing May Creek Trail, May Creek Parcel History, adjacent May Creek Property Ownership, May Creek Trail connections under SR405. See handouts. b. September/October Meeting Topics: The board decided to meet at the Maplewood Golf Course for the September meeting and requested an update from the concessionaire.The October meeting will include the Community Services department basic city budget information and the department's budget presentation to the Council. 6. Since the passage of the 1989 King County Open Space Bond Issue, the City of Renton, King County, and more recently the City of Newcastle, have been acquiring property along this corridor. The greenway serves several functions including providing habitat for endangered salmon species, providing a continuous wildlife and habitat corridor, protecting steep and sensitive slopes, providing surface water storage capacity, and land for a future multi-jurisdictional soft surface trail system with opportunities for interpretation and education. The Greenway serves as an urban separator between more developed areas. The City of City of Renton currently has 2 trail easements and owns 24 parcels totaling 62.5157.39 acres along the May Creek corridor and since 1990, the following acquisitions have been made: 1. Huseland properties (3 parcels) totaling 11.72 acres-$112,500, 1991 2. McAskill property(1 parcel) totaling 10.0 acres- $350,000,1994 3. Smeed properties (4 parcels) totaling 8.84 acres-$145,000,1995 4. Glenn property (1 parcel) totaling .68 acres-$147,000, 2000 (Grant Match prog 50°0) 5. Long property (1 parcel) totaling 1.4 acres-$45,000, 2000 (Grant Match Prog 50%) 6. Bucklin properties (4 parcels) totaling 6.73 acres-$430,000, 2008 (Grant Match Prog 50°0) 7. Langley Ridge Trail Easement, connecting to McAskill property, 2008 8. Kenyon Life Estate (2 parcels, Donation) totaling 1.9 acres-$0, 2009 ($600,000) 9. King County owns two parcels along Honey Creek and with the passage of the 1989 King County Open Space Bond Issue, the City of Renton began acquiring property along this corridor The greenway serves several functions including providing habitat for endangered salmon species, providing a continuous wildlife and habitat corridor, protecting steep and sensitive slopes, providing surface water storage capacity. A soft surface trail for walking currently exists in the Honey Creek corridor The City of City of Renton currently has one trail easement and owns 6 parcels totaling 41.33 acres along the Honey Creek corridor and since 1990, the following acquisitions have been made: 1. Huseland properties (3 parcels) totaling 7.4 acres -$131,105, 1991 2. Bales property (1 parcel) totaling 5.7 acres - $125,282, 1991 3. Blease-Collins property (1 parcel) totaling 10 acres - $214,645, 1991 4. Honey Creek Ridge (1 parcel, Donation) totaling 18.45 acres - $0, (Est. value $100,000), mid-1990's 5. Recreation Easement over existing City Sewer Acquisition Funding Source Summary (dollar figures are land cost only at the time of acquisition/donation and do not include soft costs).
