COMCAST is applying for a variance request in order to bring services to new housing development. COMCAST purposes to over -lash approximately 150' of aerial COAX cable over Monterey Place NE to provide service to Monterey Meadows housing development. COMCAST is requesting that the City of Renton approve this variance request based on the fact that it would be more cost efficient to use the existing aerial span to bring services to Monterey Meadows than to bore/drill the 150' complete the plant expansion. This will also prevent any pot holing to the road or any restoration needed to be done. Over -lashing will not cause substantial adverse impact to other persons or entities in the immediate area. Over -lashing the cable can be accomplished in less than a day where as boring would take up to two days and impact traffic more. The granting of the variance will not be materially detrimental to the public welfare because COMCAST does agree to underground the cable system, but they are waiving the obligation into the future when all other utilities are underground to prevent an undue hardship against COMCAST currently. Upon the granting of the variance, COMCAST will coordinate construction and traffic control as per your requirements. COMCAST and their contractors want to cooperate at the highest level and agree to adhere to all provisions and requirements set forth by the City of Renton to insure safe installation and maintenance of the proposed facilities.
