RE: Maple Highland Plat Hearing from February 12, 2019
My name is Doris Yepez and I have lived at 16444 SE 135th St. for 20 years. I am very much opposed to
opening traffic from 164th Ave SE to SE 135th St. First of all, our street is very narrow and there is a very
sharp corner close to Liberty High School, at the corner of SE 135th St. and 166th Ave SE. The road is
primitive, and if through traffic is allowed, this will make for a very unsafe situation, not only for cars but
for the students who walked down our street to one of the three schools close by, Liberty High School,
Maplewood Middle School and Briarwood Elementary. In addition, this would affect greatly the integrity
of our neighborhood, and if the road is opened, we will have a lot of traffic going by our house.
Our street is very narrow and two cars passing each other is very difficult and to widen the road wide
enough for two-way traffic would be a very big and destructive impact on all our property of those who
live on SE 135th St. We now have little kids on our street and animals that are not accustomed to traffic
and increase the traffic volume would reduce the quality of living in our neighborhood. A better
alternative, if I may suggest it, would be to put 134th through directly which would not have any sharp
turns or blind corners.
Right now, especially during the summer we get a lot of traffic from parents and kids who are trying to
gain access to the Liberty High School baseball fields. On any weekend day where there are games,
there are a lot of cars traveling at high speed going up our street only to find that it is a dead end turning
around and racing back down the street. My neighbor has counted 20, which for a short dead end is a
lot. This is dangerous and if the city or someone could install better signage that states no ball field
access that would be very much appreciated.
