?Whereas, Washington's farmers make an essential contribution to our local communities and to
the well-being of our citizens; and
Whereas, the Renton Farmers Market is celebrating its seventeenth year of operation, open each
Tuesday from June through September from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Renton's beautiful Downtown
Piazza Park; and
Whereas, the Farmers Market program in Renton is dedicated to supporting Washington's family
farms and to providing opportunities for the citizens of Renton and surrounding communities to
meet local producers and gain access to the bounty of Washington -grown products in all their
diversity, fresh from family farms; and
Whereas, the Farmers Market benefits local businesses and contributes to economic vitality by
attracting thousands of patrons each week; and
Whereas, the Farmers Market benefits community members experiencing food insecurity by
providing access and incentives for those using food assistance programs, and donating to the
local food bank; and
Whereas, the congenial atmosphere of the Farmers Market in Renton appeals to citizens of all
ages and backgrounds, creates a positive social experience, and provides nutritional and economic
benefits;
Now, therefore, I, Denis Law, Mayor of the City of Renton, do hereby proclaim the week of
August 5-11, 2018, to be
Farmers 9Varket Week
in the City of Renton, and I urge all citizens to join me in recognizing the many benefits of our local
Farmers Market.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Renton to be
affixed this 6th day of August, 2018.
