Proclamation
Whereas, National Good Neighbor Day is a time to reach out and acknowledge your neighbors,
and express thanks to those who help make your neighborhood a great place to live; and
Whereas, in 1978 President Jimmy Carter announced the creation of the national day aimed at
raising public awareness that good neighbors help achieve human understanding and build strong,
thriving communities; and
Whereas, all residents, businesses, and community groups are encouraged to participate in
recognizing and connecting with neighbors through generous acts of kindness such as organizing a
donation drive for a local charity, hosting a neighborhood block party for all your neighbors to
attend, or delivering cookies, food, or gift bags to neighbors, businesses, and community groups
who have contributed to the wellbeing of your neighborhood; and
Whereas, by taking part in this national pledge, we recognize the Renton community is strongest,
safest, and happiest when we are connected to, in communication with, and in service to our
neighbors;
Xow, therefore, I, Denis Law, Mayor of the City of Renton, do hereby proclaim September 28,
2018, to be

in the City of Renton in recognition of the importance of being good neighbors, and I encourage all
citizens to join me in this special observance.
