ORDINANCE NO. 5537
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, AMENDING SECTION
4-5-040, NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE, OF CHAPTER 5, BUILDING AND FIRE
PREVENTION STANDARDS, OF TITLE IV (DEVELOPMENT REGULATIONS) OF
ORDINANCE NO. 4260 ENTITLED "CODE OF GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY
OF RENTON, WASHINGTON", TO RENAME THE SECTION AS "RENTON
ELECTRICAL CODE", ADOPT BY REFERENCE THE JUNE 22, 2009 WASHINGTON
CITIES ELECTRICAL CODE, PARTS ONE, TWO AND THREE, AND REPEAL
SUBSECTIONS 4-5-040C AND 4-5-040D.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. Section 4-5-040, National Electrical Code, of Chapter 5, Building and Fire
Prevention Standards, of Title IV (Development Regulations) of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled
"Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton, Washington", is hereby amended to change
the title to "Renton Electrical Code".
SECTION II. Subsections 4-5-040A, Adoption, and 4-5-040B, Electrical Permit
Required, of Chapter 5, Building and Fire Prevention Standards, of Title IV (Development
Regulations) of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton,
Washington", are hereby amended as follows:
A. ADOPTION:
The "National Eloctrical Code," 2005 Edition, published by the National Fire
Protection Association, as amended by the City of Ronton, is horoby adopted as
the National Eloctrical Code, or NEC, 2005 Edition, for the City of Renton, and
may hereafter bo designated as "City of Renton Eloctrical Code, 2005." The June
22, 2009 Edition of The Washington Cities Electrical Code, Parts one, two and

three, as published by the Washington Association of Building Officials, is hereby
adopted by reference, and shall be known as the Renton Electrical Code.
B. ELECTRICAL PERMIT REQUIRED:
In addition to the National Eloctrical Code, a City electrical permit is required
before any electrical work commences. Foes shall be as listed in RMC 4 1 140F,
Eloctrical Permit Fees. The Citv shall at all times keep on file with the Citv Clerk,
for reference by the general public, not less than one copy of The Washington
Cities Electrical Code.
SECTION III. Subsections 4-5-040C, Administration and Enforcement, and 4-5-040D,
Amendments to the 2002 National Electric Code (NEC), of Chapter 5, Building and Fire
Prevention Standards, of Title IV (Development Regulations) of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled
"Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton, Washington", are hereby repealed.
SECTION IV. This ordinance shall be effective upon its passage, approval, and thirty
(30) days after publication.
