RESOLUTION NO.3717
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON,WASHINGTON,
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO ENTER INTO A
MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING ESTABLISHING A
COOPERATIVE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE CITY OF RENTON
AND THE WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION FOR THE 1-405 CONGESTION RELIEF AND
TRANSIT PROJECTS.
WHEREAS,the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT)is a
department of state government with all powers,duties,and functions to coordinate
transportation modes and to develop and maintain a statewide transportation system meeting the
needs ofthe State of Washington as provided in chapter 47.01 RCW;and
WHEREAS,the 1-405 Corridor Program proposes to implement a multimodal system of
transportation improvements to reduce traffic congestion and improve personal and freight
mobility throughout the 1-405 corridor;and
WHEREAS,the 1-405 corridor traverses through and affects the City of Renton,
including its residents,businesses,and schools;and
WHEREAS,the 2003 Washington State Legislature approved a Nickel Funding Package
that funds environmental work,design and construction of the 1-405 ''Nickel Projects"within the
City,as well as "5%Design"ofthe 1-405 Master Plan;and
WHEREAS,planning,designing,constructing and operating the I -405 Corridor
improvements are complex tasks,requiring maximum cooperation between the City and WSDOT;
and

WHEREAS,it is necessary to document the terms and conditions ofthis Memorandum of
Understanding;
NOW,THEREFORE,THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASIllNGTON,DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

The above findings are true and correct in all respects.
The Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to enter into a
Memorandum of Understanding with the Washington State Department of Transportation entitled
"Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Renton and the Washington State
Department of Transportation for the 1-405 Congestion Relief &Transit Projects."
