HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 3582CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO. 3582 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO ENTER INTO AN INTERLOCAL COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT WITH THE CITY OF SEATTLE FOR THE PURCHASE OF NON-PEAK WATER BY THE CITY OF SEATTLE. WHEREAS, the City of Seattle may experience a water shortage due to low snowpack, precipitation and inflows in the Cedar and Tolt River watersheds, or other emergency situations; WHEREAS, the City of Renton is served by wells that are not being affected by the snowpack runoff; and WHEREAS, the City of Renton is encouraging a voluntary water conservation program; and WHEREAS, it is projected that the City of Renton will have surplus water available to it; and WHEREAS, it would be in the pubhc interest for the City of Renton to sell such surplus water it might have to the City of Seattle, with the understanding that if the water was not surplus and was needed by the City of Renton that the sale could be interrupted; and WHEREAS, the sale of such water would be financially advantageous to the water utility of the City of Renton; and WHEREAS, the City of Seattle would ultimately replace the water sold to it by the City of Renton at a time when there were adequate flows for Seattle to replace such water; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: RESOLUTION NO. 35 82 SECTION I. SECTION II. The above findings are true and correct in all respects. The Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to sign an Interlocal Cooperative Agreement with the City of Seattle for the sale of surplus city water.
