HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 3585CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO. 3585 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, SUPPORTING WASHINGTON STATE'S REFERENDUM 51, WHICH IS FOR THE FUNDING OF TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS. WHEREAS, the City of Renton is part of the Puget Sound Metropolitan Region; and WHEREAS, economic development in the City of Renton and the region is dependent upon having adequate transportation infrastructure to support business and provide for a Uvable community; and WHEREAS, the City of Renton has adopted a Business Plan, which goals include: 1) Promote economic development and downtown redevelopment; 2) promote neighborhood revitalization; 3) promote the City's image in the community and region; 4) meet the service demands that contribute to the livability of the community; and 5) influence regional decisions that impact the City; and WHEREAS, Referendum 51 would further several of the goals within the Business Plan; and WHEREAS, an efficient statewide transportation network is vital to the aforementioned goals; and WHEREAS, Interstate 405, a major artery for goods and people traveling to, from and through Renton, has been identified as one of the major projects to receive funding; and WHEREAS, major parcels of property in the Renton area are primed for redevelopment at a higher and better use, enhancing the economic vitality of the region and state, and these projects will require an efficient transportation network to make them feasible; and 1 RESOLUTION NO. 3585 WHEREAS, the State Growth Management Act mandates that urban centers be developed with increased density, putting more and more pressure on the urban transportation grid; and WHEREAS, the State is placing Referendum 51 on the November 2002 ballot; and WHEREAS, this proposal to increase funding for transportation projects includes 1) a Corridor Study for SR 167; 2) improvements to increase capacity on 1-405 in Renton; and 3) completion of the HOV lanes on SR 167 and other regional transportation improvements that benefit Renton and the region; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. The above findings are true and correct in all respects. SECTION II. The City Council of the City of Renton supports Referendum 51 and the projects proposed therein.
