HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 3491CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO. 3491 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON DECLARING A LOCAL EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, Resolution No. 3411 of the City of Renton. State of Washington, empowers the Mayor and City Council to proclaim the existence or threatened existence of a local emergency in the City, when the City is affected or likely to be affected by a major emergency or natural disaster; and WHEREAS, Mayor Jesse Tanner and the City Council have been requested by the incident commander(s) to proclaim the existence of a local emergency therein; and WHEREAS, said Mayor and City Council do hereby find: That conditions of peril to the safety of persons and property have arisen within the City, caused by a 6.8 magnitude earthquake of approximately 30 seconds starting at approximately 10:55 a.m. on the 28th day of February, 2001; and WHEREAS, Governor Gary Locke has declared a state of emergency; and WHERE AS, County Executive Ron Sims has proclaimed a state of emergency; and WHEREAS, Renton Fire Chief A. Lee Wheeler, head of the Emergency Operations Center, has declared an emergency in the City of Renton; and WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to adopt and confirm a declaration of said emergency; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and correct in all respects. 1 RESOLUTION NO. 3491 SECTION II. The declarations of emergency declared by the Governor, County Executive and Renton Fire Chief are approved, confirmed and adopted by the City Council; and SECTION 111. It is hereby proclaimed that during the existence of said local emergency, the powers, functions, and duties necessary to stabilize and control said incident are given to the incident commander(s); and SECTION IV. The local emergency shall be deemed to continue to exist until its termination is proclaimed by the Mayor and City Council. PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL this 5f.h day of March , 2001. Marilyn J.
