HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 3476CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO. 3476 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO ENTER INTO AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN KING COUNTY, THE CITY OF RENTON AND THE OTHER CITIES WITHIN WATER RESOURCE INVENTORY AREAS 8 AND 9 FOR THE PURPOSE OF MANAGING, FUNDING, DEVELOPING, REVIEWING AND APPROVING WRIA-BASED WATERSHED PLANS FOR SALMON CONSERVATION. WHEREAS, King County, the City of Renton and the other cities within Water Resource Inventory Areas 8 and 9 (the "Areas") share jurisdiction over the Areas; and WHEREAS, there is a need to protect the water resources and habitat quality within the Areas in response to the Endangered Species Act and the Clean Water Act; and WHEREAS, the funding, development and approval of a base watershed plan for salmon conservation for the Areas needs to be accomplished in coordination with all jurisdictions, stakeholders and the citizens within the Areas; and WHEREAS, the total cost for preparing WRIA-based watershed plans for salmon conservation within the Areas is approximately $4,330,000 over a 5-year period and the City of Renton share of the total cost would be approximately $124,350 over the same 5-year period; and WHEREAS, it is in the City of Renton's interest to participate in regional efforts with respect to protecting salmon habitat, water quality and flooding; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON. DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and correct in all respects. 1 RESOLUTION NO. 3476 SECTION II. The Mayor and the City Clerk are hereby authorized to enter into an interlocal agreement for the watershed basins within Water Resource Inventory Areas 8 and 9 for the purpose of management, funding, development, reviewing and approval of salmon conservation plans for Water Resource Inventory Areas 8 and 9.
