ORDINANCE NO.4815
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON,WASHINGTON
AMENDING SECTIONS 8-1-9 OF CHAPTER I,GARBAGE,8-2-3.E.OF
CHAPTER 2,STORM AND SURFACE WATER DRAINAGE,8-4-31.8 OF
CHAPTER 4,WATER,AND 8-5-15.A OF CHAPTER 5,SEWERS,OF
TITLE VIII (HEALTH AND SANITATION),OF ORDINANCE NO.4260
ENTITLED "CODE OF GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
RENTON,WASHINGTON"RELATING TO AUTOMATIC INCREASES
IN UTILITY RATES.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON,WASHINGTON DO ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I.Section 8-1-9 of Chapter I,Garhage,of Title VIII (Health and Sanitation),
of Ordinance No.4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinance of the City of Renton,Washington"
is hereby amended by renumbering the current section 8-1-9.D as 8-1-9.£,and adding a new
section 8-1-9.D which reads as follows:
D.Beginning with January 1,2001,the monthly rates and charges scheduled in this
section shall automatically be increased by the percentage increase in the July CPI-Seattle over
that of the July CPI-Seattle for the previous year,or five percent,whichever is greater.
SECTION n.Section 8-2-3.E of Chapter 2,Stonn and Surfuce Water Drainage,of Title
VIII (Health and Sanitation),of Ordinance No.4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinance of the
City of Renton,Washington"is hereby amended to read as follows:
E.Charges For Surfuce Water Utility:
1.The following schedule is hereby adopted as the monthly charges to be paid to the
City for surface water utility services:

2.Senior and/or disabled citizens who qualify under section 8-4-3I.B shall he
eligible,upon application,for special rates as detailed in section 8-2-2.G ofthis chapter.
3.Beginning with January I,2001,the monthly rates and cbarges scheduled in this
section shall automatically be increased by the percentage increase in the July CPI-Seattle over
that of the July CPI-Seattle for the previous year,or five percent,whichever is greater.
SECTION III.Section 8-4-3I.B of Chapter 4,Water,of Title VIll (Health and
Sanitation),of Ordinance No.4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinance of the City of Renton,
Washington"is hereby amended to read as follows:
B.Metered Rates:
1.The minimum rates for metered water supplied within the City in one month or
fractional period thereof are hereby fixed in the following schedule:

2.Commodity Rates:Two consumption blocks will he established for residential
customers (single-fiunily and duplex customers).The size of the first block will he zero to one

thousand (I to 1,000)cubic feet of water cousumed per mouth.The secoud block will be all
consumption over one thousand (1,000)cubic feet per month.The rates for these two blocks are
as follows
I to 1,000 feet
Over 1,000 cubic fuet

All commercial customers (multi-fiuni1y,commercial aud iudustrial)will pay for
couswuptiou at tbe first block rate of oue doOar seveuty six ceuts ($1.76)per 100 cubic feet.
3.Begiuuiug with Jauuary I,2001,the mouthly rates aud charges scheduled iu this sectiou
shall automatically be iucreased by the perceutage iucrease iu the July CPI-Seattle over that of the
July CPI-Seattle for the previous year,or five percent,whichever is greater.
SECTION IV.Sectiou 8-5-15.A of Chapter 5,Sewers,of Title V1I1 (Health aud
Sauitatiou),of Ordiuauce No.4260 eutitled "Code of Geueral Ordiuauce of the City of Reutou,
Washington"is hereby amended by adding subsection 4 to read as follows:
4.Begiuuiug with Jauuary 1,2001,the mouthly rates aud charges scheduled iu this
section shall automatically be increased by the percentage increase in the July CPI-8eattle over
that of the July Cpr-Seattle for the previous year,or five percent,whichever is greater.
SECTION V.This ordiuauce shall be effective upou its passage,approval,aud five days
after its publication.
