HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 3407 CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO. 3 4 0 7 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING APPLICATION FOR FUNDING ASSISTANCE FOR AN ATHLETIC FIELD AT RON REGIS PARK. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Renton, Washington, has adopted a "Comprehensive Park and Recreation Plan" for the urban area which identified a need for an active use community park along the Cedar River in the eastern part of the City; and WHEREAS, the City of Renton acquired the 45-acre Ron Regis Park from King County in 1987 for the purpose of developing athletic fields and preserving an open space corridor along the Cedar River for the use and enjoyment of the public; and WHEREAS, the City Council, after an extensive public process, adopted a Master Plan for Ron Regis Park in 1993 that included four(4) athletic fields in response to the continuing and growing need for athletic facilities in the community; and WHEREAS, the development of this park has been identified as a high priority project on the City's Capital Facilities Plan since 1993; and WHEREAS, the City completed the initial phase of the Ron Regis Park development in 1999 by constructing two (2) lighted athletic fields, a basketball court and related parking; and WHEREAS, the City and many local athletic organizations continue to experience a need for athletic fields to accommodate additional sports teams, leagues and programs; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Renton considers it in the best public interest to develop additional athletic fields and support facilities at Ron Regis Park in accordance with the Master Plan to increase the amount of playing time available for public use; and 1 RESOLUTION NO. 3407 WHEREAS, under the guidelines of the Youth Athletic Facilities Account, funding has been made available to the Interagency Committee on Outdoor Recreation to help fund the acquisition, development, improvement and maintenance of athletic fields throughout the State of Washington; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and correct in all respects. SECTION II. The Mayor is hereby authorized to make formal application to the Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation for funding assistance from the Youth Athletic Facilities Account. SECTION III. Any funding assistance so received shall be used to construct one soccer field, one lighted baseball field, parking, and used to design and provide a domestic water supply at the City's Ron Regis Park located at the corner of 149th Avenue S.E. and the Maple Valley Highway in the City of Renton, Washington. SECTION IV. The City's share of the project will be derived from the City's Municipal Facilities Capital Improvement Fund. SECTION V. The City of Renton does hereby certify that the City is the owner of the Ron Regis Park, and provides assurance that the facilities funded with this grant will be open and available to the public for youth and other community athletic purposes.
