HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 2788 Amended try' Resolution No. 2821 CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO. 2788 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, APPROVING AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH KING COUNTY AND THE CITIES OF KENT AND TUKWILA TO FORM THE VALLEY TRANSPORTATION BENEFIT DISTRICT. WHEREAS, King County, the Cities of Auburn, Kent, Renton and Tukwila, the Puget Sound Council of Governments, Metro, the Washington State Department of Transportation and the Valley Area Transportation Alliance have formed the South County Area Transportation Benefit District (SCATBD) Steering Committee for the purpose of providing policy guidance in developing recommendations to establish a transportation benefit district in the Green River Valley area of King County; and WHEREAS, SCATBD members are committed to a joint process for securing funding for the regional transportation improvement needs within the Green River Valley King County; and WHEREAS, the SCATBD Steering Committee has considered alternative means for jointly addressing transportation problems in the South King County area and has concluded that formation of a transportation benefit district (TBD) pursuant to Chapter 36 . 37 RCW would be the most effective means of accomplishing this objective; and WHEREAS, the SCATBD Steering Committee has approved proposed boundaries for a transportation benefit district and identified a prioritized list of transportation improvements within the proposed boundaries; and WHEREAS, the formation process for a multi-jurisdictional TBD requires that an interlocal agreement among the participating 1 . t RESOLUTION NO. 2788 jurisdictions to form a TBD be adopted pursuant to Chapter 39 . 34 RCW. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and correct in all respects . SECTION II. The entire area within the boundaries of the City of Renton as of January 1, 1990, is to be included in the TBD. SECTION III . The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign an interlocal agreement in substantially the same form as the attached agreement for the purposes of establishing a transportation benefit district. SECTION IV. The City Council requests that the King County Council promptly initiate action to establish a transportation benefit district for the area identified in the interlocal agreement through the published notice process of notification of the Council 's proposed action.
