HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 2815 CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO. 2815 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, REQUESTING KING COUNTY TO IMPLEMENT THE LOCAL OPTION VEHICLE REGISTRATION FEE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND EXPRESSING THE CITY OF RENTON'S INTENT TO PARTICIPATE IN NEGOTIATIONS TO DEVELOP A COMMON PROCESS FOR IMPLEMENTING THE TRANSPORTATION PLANNING AND COORDINATION PROVISIONS OF CHAPTER 42, SESSION LAWS OF 1990 (ESSB 6358) , SECTION 212. WHEREAS, traffic congestion, and obtaining funding for road improvements to reduce that congestion, continue to be urgent problems for the residents of the City of Renton; and WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Washington, in recognition of the urgency of these problems, passed legislation providing for local option vehicle registration fees; and WHEREAS, the King County Council has expressed by Motion the county's intention to consider adoption of an ordinance establishing the vehicle registration fee as soon as possible; and WHEREAS, the Post-Legislative Transportation Forum held by King County on May 16, 1990 recommended that King County and the cities within King County should agree to a common process for carrying out the transportation planning and coordination provisions of Chapter 42, Session Laws of 1990 (ESSB 6358) , Section 212; and WHEREAS, the enactment of this fee and the participation in regional transportation planning and coordination would be of significant assistance towards a solution to traffic congestion in and near the City of Renton. 1 RESOLUTION NO. 2815 ' NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and correct in all respects . SECTION II. The City of Renton hereby requests that King County enact the local option vehicle registration fee at the earliest possible date. SECTION III. The City of Renton hereby declares its intent to participate in negotiations to develop a common process to carry out the provisions of Chapter 42, Session Laws of 1990, Section 212 .
