RESOLUTION NO. 2798
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON,
EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE LOCATION OF THE KENWORTH
TRUCK COMPANY MANUFACTURING FACILITY WITHIN THE CITY
LIMITS OF THE CITY OF RENTON.
WHEREAS, Pacific Car and Foundry has occupied a prominent
site in North Renton since 1908; and
WHEREAS, PACCAR has been an integral and valued part of this
City' s history, culture, and economic base for more than 80
years; and
WHEREAS, several generations of Renton workers have helped
to produce heavy equipment to serve this nation both in peacetime
and at war; and
WHEREAS, Kenworth Truck Company has been a subsidiary of
PACCAR, Inc . since 1944 and is recognized worldwide as the
producer of the premium quality, state of the art, custom
engineered, heavy-duty truck; and
WHEREAS, Kenworth Trucks are a credit to the skill and
ingenuity of local workers and a source of pride for people
throughout the region; and
WHEREAS, Kenworth Truck Company needs to expand its
production capacity and is considering the Foundry site in North
Renton as a home for its new manufacturing plant; and
WHEREAS, alternative sites being considered are outside the
State of Washington and would mean the loss of jobs for several
hundred loyal Kenworth employees and the loss of a pioneer
corporate citizen of this State and Region.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and
correct in all respects.
SECTION II . The City of Renton actively supports having
the Kenworth Truck Plant located in our community.
SECTION III . The City of Renton has assigned highest
priority to working with Kenworth personnel to review site plan
and design specifications and for issuing permits for the plant
construction.
SECTION IV. The City of Renton will continue to work
aggressively to obtain $2 . 1 million in State CERB grant funds to
improve freeway access to the Kenworth site.
SECTION V. The City of Renton respectfully requests that
Kenworth select the North Renton site for their new manufacturing
facility.
