RESOLUTION NO. 3246
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN AN AGREEMENT WITH RENTON
SCHOOL DISTRICT #403 AND WITH WICK CONSTRUCTORS TO HOLD
THEM HARMLESS WHILE CONDUCTING FIRE TRAINING EXERCISES
AT MCKNIGHT MIDDLE SCHOOL.
WHEREAS, fire departments throughout the state of Washington
are required, by law, to conduct fire training exercises; and
WHEREAS, fire departments and fire districts work
cooperatively to obtain and provide training; and
WHEREAS, cooperative fire training with other agencies
furthers the effectiveness of fire suppression response and
furthers the purpose of saving lives; and
WHEREAS, R.C.W. 39 . 34 permits municipalities to enter into
interlocal agreements; and
WHEREAS, Renton School District #403 (hereinafter, "School
District" ) has plans to demolish and reconstruct certain buildings
at McKnight Middle School located at 1200 Edmonds Avenue N.E. in
Renton, Washington (hereinafter "subject premises" ) ; and
WHEREAS, the Renton Fire Department has requested of and
received from the School District and its general contractor, WICK
Constructors, permission to access the subject premises for the
purpose of conducting fire training exercises and for similar
access by other fire departments or fire districts; and

WHEREAS, the Auburn, Kent, and Tukwila Fire Departments and
Fire Districts #40 and #43 have asked permission of the Renton
Fire Department to be allowed access to the subject premises for
the purpose of participating in fire training exercises; and
WHEREAS, the School District and WICK Constructors have
conditioned their permission to access the subject premises upon
the Renton Fire Department ' s agreement to hold harmless the School
District and WICK Constructors from any claims arising from the
fire training exercises; and
WHEREAS, the Renton Fire Department and the City of Renton
will require the Cities of Auburn, Kent, and Tukwila and Fire
Districts #40 and #43 (hereinafter: "participating Fire
Departments and Fire Districts" ) to hold harmless the City of
Renton and the Renton Fire Department from any and all claims of
whatever nature which are caused, or may be caused, by the
negligence of any and/or all of those Participating Fire
Departments and Fire Districts; and
WHEREAS, the City Council is dedicated to maintaining a well
prepared fire suppression force to protect the citizens of Renton
and this training furthers that purpose;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS :

SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and
correct in all respects .
SECTION II. The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign an
agreement with School District #403 and WICK Constructors to hold
them harmless while conducting fire training exercises at McKnight
Middle School and to obtain the signatures of the Mayor, City
Manager, or Chairperson of the Board of the respective agencies
who will be participating in the fire training exercises .
