HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 3187 CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO. 3187 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, REQUESTING THAT KING COUNTY INCLUDE THE GEOGRAPHIC AREA COMPRISING THE CITY OF RENTON WITHIN ONE COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT. WHEREAS, King County is currently reviewing its legislative districts for purposes of redistricting; and WHEREAS, due to its geographic location at the south end of Lake Washington along the I-405 corridor, the City of Renton has unique opportunities and challenges relating to transportation, regional services, employment opportunities, recreation, neighborhood vitality, and commercial and residential development; and WHEREAS, having the entire City within one district allows the Renton City Council to more accurately report to King County elected representatives the feelings and positions of Renton; and WHEREAS, the magnitude of impact from county decisions on the entire City of Renton may not be fully ascertained if the City is split between districts; and WHEREAS, the Renton City Council feels that keeping the City of Renton within one legislative district provides the City with a more unified voice before the County Council ; and WHEREAS, having the City of Renton within one county legislative district provides for more efficient representation from the King County Council ; and RESOLUTION NO . 3187 WHEREAS, areas of unincorporated King County that lie within the City of Renton' s potential annexation areas should be included within the same legislative district as the City whenever possible; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS : SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and correct in all respects . SECTION II. The Renton City Council supports a legislative configuration that keeps the City within one legislative district . SECTION III . The Renton City Council encourages the King County Council to ensure that Renton' s position is honored in the redistricting process .
