RESOLUTION NO. 3198
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON,
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO EXECUTE A
MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH KING COUNTY REGARDING THE
TRANSPORT OF PRISONERS.
WHEREAS, the City. of Renton and King County are parties to that
certain agreement entitled, "Contract for Jail Services" which they
entered into on September 9, 1985 (hereinafter "the Jail Contract) ;
and
WHEREAS, the Jail Contract contemplates that prisoners housed
in. the King County Jail will be released to City police personnel
for court appearances on City misdemeanor charges, but does not
specify the means for accomplishing release; and
WHEREAS, concerns have been expressed by King County regarding
the release of prisoners held on felony charges to unarmed City
Police Support Officers; and
WHEREAS, the City of Renton and King County desire to express
their mutual understanding as to the circumstances under which these
and other prisoners will be released to City custody;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and
correct in all respects .

SECTION II. The Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized
to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between King County and the
City of Renton to allow prisoners housed in the King County Jail to
be released to City police personnel for court appearances on City
. misdemeanor charges .
