HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 3114 CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO. 3114 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO INITIATIVE 164 AND URGING THE LEGISLATURE TO SEND THE MEASURE TO THE BALLOT WITHOUT AN ALTERNATIVE. WHEREAS, Initiative 164 has been presented to the state of Washington; and WHEREAS, Initiative 164 would create regulatory delays; and WHEREAS, Initiative 164 would require taxpayers to pay for even minimal impacts on property; and WHEREAS, Initiative 164, as worded, would prohibit basic zoning regulations such as setbacks, lot coverage and limitations, and nearly every other basic zoning regulation; and WHEREAS, Initiative 164 will result in costly litigation; and WHEREAS, Initiative 164 will likely result in challenges of regulations adopted under the Growth Management Act and the Shorelines Management Act; and WHEREAS, lawsuits filed challenging the Growth Management Act regulations and Shorelines Management Act regulations will likely result in cities joining the state of Washington as a defendant and will expose the state to substantial additional expenditures for takings under the initiative; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and correct in all respects . 1 RESOLUTION NO. 3114 SECTION II. The City of Renton urges all legislators to submit Initiative 164 to the ballot without an alternative. PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL this 20th day of March , 1995 .
