RESOLUTION NO. 3058
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, STRONGLY
ENCOURAGING THE METROPOLITAN KING COUNTY COUNCIL TO
ACCEPT THE LEASE OFFERED BY ONE RENTON PLACE.
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan King County Council is seeking to
locate space for the Department of Development and Environmental
Services (DDES) ; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan King County Council is elected by
King County voters to act in their best interests; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan King County Council has proposed a
series of economic development initiatives to enhance and support
businesses in King County; and
.WHEREAS, the market conditions for office space have changed
dramatically because of the Boeing layoffs and the cooling of the
Puget Sound economy; and
WHEREAS, the DDES is approximately $11 million in debt, has an
$18 million fund deficit and should be looking for ways to cut
costs; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan King County Council should be
committed to improving the financial condition of DDES while at the
same time holding down the fees charged for land use and
development services; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan King County Council should be
committed to obtaining the best lease possible for the taxpayers of
the county and the customers of DDES; and
WHEREAS, relocating DDES to Renton provides easy access to all

of King County via five state highways and freeways and will
insignificantly affect travel times from its existing location; and
WHEREAS, One Renton Place has submitted a proposal that is in
the best overall interests of the county and will save the
taxpayers at least $752, 000 .00; and
WHEREAS, One Renton Place is superior to the alternative in
parking, internal layout of space, fire safety features, and
commercial services within easy walking distance; and
WHEREAS, The Boeing Company is the United States largest
exporter; and
WHEREAS, King County participated in the recent trade mission
to the Far East; and
WHEREAS, _Singapore Airlines is considering an order for $6
billion of Boeing airplanes; and
.WHEREAS, -ownership of One Renton Place is affiliated with a
pension fund of the citizens of Singapore;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASHINGTON DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and
correct in all respects .
SECTION II. The City of Renton does hereby resolve to
strongly encourage the King County Council to accept the lease
offered by One Renton Place.
