HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 3059 CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO. 3059 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, OPPOSING ANY REGIONAL TRANSIT AUTHORITY PROPOSAL WHICH DOES NOT SERVE RENTON. WHEREAS, the Regional Transit Authority has disclosed three Phase I discussion options for the Regional Transit Plan dated April 8, 1994; and WHEREAS, only one of the options has commuter rail service to Renton in the first phase; and WHEREAS, commuter rail service was found to be the most cost effective Phase I alternative for Renton; and WHEREAS, Renton is the fourth largest employment center in King County and has over 40, 000 employees traveling to and from the City every day; and WHEREAS, the Renton/Tukwila. I-405 corridor is the second largest employment center in the county; and WHEREAS, Renton ' s economic vitality requires a strong and viable regional transportation system; and WHEREAS, the exclusion of commuter rail in a first phase is contrary to the economic vitality of the City and does not recognize that the City is a major employer in the County; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I . The above recitals are found to be true and correct in all respects . SECTION II. The City Council fully supports Mayor Earl Clymer in his efforts to include commuter rail in all options for a 1 RESOLUTION NO. 305.9 first phase of the Regional Transit Plan in order to support the City as a major employer in the region and to support economic development in the City. SECTION III. The City Council and the Mayor of Renton oppose any Regional Transit Authority proposal which does not serve Renton. PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL this 25th day of April , 1994 .
