RESOLUTION NO. . 3083
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON,
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO ENTER INTO A
FEASIBILITY COST SHARING AGREEMENT WITH THE UNITED STATES
ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS FOR THE CEDAR RIVER SECTION 205
FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT FEASIBILITY STUDY.
WHEREAS, the City of Renton has jurisdiction over the lower
Cedar River Channel; and
WHEREAS, severe flooding has been observed along the lower
Cedar River Channel which has endangered lives and caused
significant damage to public and private property; and
WHEREAS, the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers has authority under
Section 205 of the 1948 Flood Control Act to provide federal
assistance to local sponsors to reduce flood. damages and
WHEREAS, the Corps. of Engineers., in. an Initial Appraisal Report
for the Cedar River: Sect:ion_.205 Flood. Control Study, determined that
potential benefits- exc.e-e& potential costs ( 1 . 6 :1 ) for a structural
flood control solution--;, and
WHEREAS the Corps of Engineers, in an Initial Appraisal Report
for the Cedar River Section 205 Flood Control Study, determined that
there is a federal interest in participating in flood damage
reduction measures; and
WHEREAS, the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers requires that a
study be conducted to determine the most environmentally acceptable
alternative which can be constructed at the least cost for a flood
control solution; and
WHEREAS, the budget for such a study is approximately
$798, 000 .00 and the City' s share of that cost would be approximately
$399, 000 . 00; and

WHEREAS, those efforts will be furthered by the preparation of
a Feasibility Study and Detailed Project Report for the Cedar River
Section 205 Flood Control Project;
NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I . The above recitals are found to be true and
correct in all respects .
SECTION II. The Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized
to enter into a Feasibility Cost Sharing Agreement with the U. S .
Army Corps of Engineers to develop a Cedar River Section 205 Flood
Control Project Feasibility Study and Detailed Project Report.
