RESOLUTION NO. 2985
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON,
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO SIGN AN
INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT AMENDING THE EXISTING VALLEY
COMMUNICATIONS CENTER (VALLEY COM) AGREEMENT BY
AUTHORIZING VALLEY COM TO ACQUIRE, HOLD AND DISPOSE OF
REAL PROPERTY AND TO RESTATE THE POWERS THAT MAY BE
EXERCISED BY VALLEY COM.
WHEREAS, the Cities of Auburn, Kent, Renton and Tukwila
entered into an interlocal agreement on August 22, 1976, amended on
February 11, 1985, to establish a public safety and emergency
services communication center known as Valley Communications Center
(Valley Com) ; and
WHEREAS, a county-wide levy was passed to support the regional
development of an integrated emergency radio communications
.network; and
WHEREAS, under that levy Valley Com was to be provided certain
funds so that Valley Com could participate as a component of the
regional network; and
WHEREAS,, the emergency radio communications network will
involve Valley Com acquiring certain real estate; and
WHEREAS, it is questionable whether Valley Com, as presently
constituted, has the authority to hold such real estate; and
WHEREAS, it would be advisable to amend the existing
agreements concerning Valley Com to provide the authority to
acquire, hold and dispose of real estate;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and
correct in all respects .
SECTION II. The Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized
to enter into an Interlocal Cooperative Agreement with the Cities
of Auburn, Kent and Tukwila to amend the existing Valley Com
agreements to provide the authority to acquire, hold and dispose of
real property, and to expressly state the powers that may be
exercised by Valley Com pursuant to RCW 39 . 34 .030( 3) (b) . In
granting the Mayor and City Clerk the power to sign this agreement,
it is understood that the purpose of this agreement is to ensure
that Valley Com is eligible to receive levy proceeds directly from
King County to provide an emergency radio communications network.
