HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 2908 Replaces RES 2899 CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO. 2908 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, AUTHORIZING APPLICATION FOR FUNDING ASSISTANCE FOR AN OUTDOOR RECREATION PROJECT TO THE: INTERAGENCY COMMITTEE FOR OUTDOOR RECREATION AS PROVIDED BY THE MARINE RECREATION LAND ACT (CEDAR RIVER TRAIL PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE AND TRAIL EXTENSION) . WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Renton, Washington, has approved a "Comprehensive Park and Recreation Plan" for the urban area, which identifies a trail corridor located in the eastern part of the city; and WHEREAS, under the provisions of the Marine Recreation Land Act, state and federal funding assistance has been authorized and made available to aid in financing the cost of land for parks and the construction of outdoor recreational facilities of local public bodies; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Renton considers it in the best public interest to develop, and construct a pedestrian bridge across the Cedar River at the Cedar River Park as part of the State' s SR-405 Project in the eastern part of the city and to develop and construct a 12 ' wide asphalt trail from the pedestrian bridge on the south side of the Cedar River out to the City limits at 149th Street. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and correct in all respects . 1 RESOLUTION NO. 2908 SECTION II . The Mayor is authorized to make formal application to the Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation for funding assistance. SECTION III. Any fund assistance; so received be used in the design and construction of a pedestrian bridge across the Cedar River and in the design and construction of a trail from I-405 eastward to the City limits of 149th Street, both located in the eastern part of the City of Renton, Washington. SECTION IV. The city' s share of the project will be derived from King County Open Space Bond Issue Proceeds . SECTION V. Any facility developed with financial aid through the Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation shall be placed in use as an outdoor recreation facility and be retained in such use in perpetuity unless as otherwise provided and agreed to by the City Council, the Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation, and any affected federal agency. SECTION VI . The City of Renton does hereby certify that the city is responsible to support all non-cash commitments from third parties to the local share should they not materialize. SECTION VII . This resolution shall become part of a formal application to the Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation. SECTION VIII. Adequate notification has been given and opportunity provided for public input. SECTION IX. That the site plan has been adopted by the local governing body. SECTION X. That the City of Renton does certify that the City is coordinating with the Washington State Department of 2 i RESOLUTION NO. 2908 Transportation in the State' s acquisition of the Burlington Northern Railroad right-of-way and eventual easement from the State to design and construct a trail system over said R.O.W. The right- of-way acquisition from I-405 to the West end of Maplewood Golf Course will be completed by December 1, 1992 and the right-of-way acquisition from the west end of Maplewood Golf Course eastward to the City Limits at 149th Street, and beyond, will be completed by March 1, 1993 . The City will have both easements from W. S .D.O.T. by May 1993 . PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL this 22nd day of June 1992 .
