HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 2924 CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO. 2924 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DECLARING ITS OPPOSITION TO THE RECOMMENDED REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION PLAN DRAFT SYSTEM PLAN FOR THE DISBURSEMENT OF REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY FUNDS. WHEREAS, the City of Renton is included within the regional transportation authority boundaries; and WHEREAS, the regional transportation plan draft system plan has been proposed for adoption; and WHEREAS, the plans would expend funds to construct a rail system, provide improved bus service, and build capital facilities to support transit; and WHEREAS, the City of Renton would receive no benefit from the rail funding and would have to compete for a share of the other two funding sources; and WHEREAS, the City of Renton is in the fastest growing area within the regional transportation authority boundaries; and WHEREAS, the City of Renton is the second largest King County job center; and WHEREAS, the City of Renton is a point of intersection of five major transportation corridors, and these corridors are currently at or near Level of Service "F" with projected demands to nearly double the existing capacity by the year 2,010; and WHEREAS, the great majority of the traffic using these major corridors has neither origin nor destination within the City of Renton, thus making the problem a regional traffic problem; and RESOLUTION NO. 2 9 2 4 WHEREAS, the draft policies would do little or nothing to provide a regional solution to this regional traffic problem; and WHEREAS, the draft policies, if implemented, would have far reaching effect on the City of Renton economy and, under the Growth Management Act, far reaching implication for future growth in the City of Renton. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The above recitals are found to be true and correct in all respects . SECTION II . The City Council fully supports Mayor Earl Clymer in his efforts to modify the draft policies to achieve equity in the draft policies to obtain an equitable participation by the City of Renton in all three components of the draft system plan.
