HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 2933 CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO. 2933 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the 16-inch water main on Benson Road near South 19th Street failed from excessive external corrosion and this main is the only pipeline that supplies the Rolling Hills area; and WHEREAS, the integrity of all the water mains in the vicinity of the Talbot Hill Reservoir is in jeopardy; and WHEREAS, a consultant study indicated that excessive corrosion in this area was due to stray current from natural gas pipeline cathodic protection systems; and WHEREAS, immediate remedial measures need to be taken to permanently repair/replace the affected water mains; and WHEREAS, the bidding process for contracting the design and construction of these water mains would delay the commencement of this project such that the water main may fail again. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and correct in all respects . SECTION II . The City Council hereby declares an emergency and authorizes the Public Works Department to negotiate contracts for and expedite the design and construction of the affected water mains .
