RESOLUTION NO. 2859
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON,
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO SIGN AN AMENDED
INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT FOR REGIONAL PLANNING OF THE CENTRAL
PUGET SOUND AREA.
WHEREAS, the City of Renton has chosen to withdraw from the
Puget Sound Council of Governments as have many other
municipalities; and
WHEREAS, a multi-county transportation planning agency is
necessary to receive certain federal funds; and
WHEREAS, the Growth Management Act anticipates formation of a
multi-county transportation and planning agency; and
WHEREAS, the City of Renton has signed an interlocal agreement
to enter into such a transportation and planning group but such
agreement must be amended to obtain the necessary levels of
participation to form the agency; and
WHEREAS, the City of Renton has determined that it is
appropriate for the city to enter into such an agreement, but only
upon the city expressing its concern about certain language
contained in that agreement.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I .
The above recitals are found to be true and
correct in all respects .
SECTION II . The Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized
to sign the amended Interlocal Agreement for Regional Planning of

the Central Puget Sound Area for and on behalf of the City of
Renton.
SECTION III . The administration is further directed to
author a letter objecting to the mandatory language contained in
the agreement as it relates to interjurisdictional compatibility of
transportation plans , not formally identifying the Suburban Cities
Association as a representative of King County Suburban Cities , and
making Vision 2020 more than a planning guide .
