HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 2556 CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON RESOLUTION N0. 255 _ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON ENDORSING AND SUPPORTING THE BOND ISSUE FOR ACQUIRING, RECONDITIONING AND IMPROVING MAPLEWOOD GOLF COURSE AND URGING THE SUPPORT OF THE VOTERS WHEREAS the City Council of the City of Renton has determined that a bond issue should be placed before the voters at the Primary Election in September of this year for acquiring, reconditioning and improving Maplewood Golf Course, and WHEREAS acquisition of the Maplewood Golf Course would preserve this .facility and prevent its loss to development as has occurred with similarly situated golf courses , and WHEREAS the acquisition of Maplewood Golf Course would provide the City with .an ownership interest in property along the entire length of the Cedar River within the City limits of the City of Renton. and beyond, and WHEREAS acquisition of the Maplewood Golf Course would provide a link between the Cedar River Linear Park and the King County Regional Park to be developed at a later date, and WHEREAS the acquistion of the Maplewood Golf Course would provide recreational opportunities through development of picnic facilities and possibly athletic facilities within the property to be acquired which will not interfere with the go.lf. course, and WHEREAS the Maplewood Golf Course would be fully or largely self-supporting, and •. -1- /r WHEREAS the most recent bond issue for Gene Coulon Memorial Park resulted in a universally acknowledged and recognized facility, now therefore, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS : SECTION I: The above recitals are true and correct. SECTION II : The City Council. of the City of Renton do hereby endorse and support the bond issue for acquiring, reconditioning and improving Maplewood Golf Course and urge the voters to support the bond issue.
