ORDINANCE NO. 3471
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON,
ESTABLISHING A MUNICIPAL COURT FILING FEE AND
MUNICIPAL COURT JURY FEE
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENON, WASHINGTON, D.0
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I : In any case filed with the Renton Municipal Court
there is hereby established a filing fee in the sum of $25 . 00 . Such
filing fee shall not apply in traffic cases or criminal cases wherein
bail is forfeited. The Judge or Judge Pro Tem of the Renton Municipal
Court , in any action before him or her, assesses the Defendant all
or any, portion of said filing fee as a portion of any fine or
penalty or as a condition of suspension or deferral of any penalty.
A filing fee herein is an attempt to recover a small portion of the
cost for court room space and clerical and court room personnel
necessary to maintain a functioning, efficient court system.
SECTION II : It is recognized that Defendants in Renton
Municipal Court , in certain instances , have the right to a trial by
jury. It is further recognized that the City is at the present time
paying the sum of $10. 00 per juror per day' s attendance, and that the
legislature has authorized the Counties to pay up to $25 . 00 per juror
per day' s attendance. The Municipal Court is obligated to pay the
County rate. Therefore , after conviction by a trial jury, the
trial judge may include as costs all or part of the sum expended by
the City for jury fees and costs , including any costs for meals for
the jury.
