RELATING 10 THE MUNICIPAL ARTS FUND
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I : Existing subsection 2 of Section 1-3502 of
Title I (Administrative) of Ordinance No . 1628 entitled "Code of
General Ordinances of the City of Renton" is hereby amended to
read as follows :
Section 1-3502 2 . , as amended: "Municipal Construction
Project" shall mean any project paid for wholly or in part by the
City of Renton,which payment exceeds $10 , 000. 00 , to construct ,
renovate or remodel any public building, decorative or commemorative
structure, park, street , sidewalk, parking facility or utility, or
any portion thereof , within the City limits of the City of Renton.
SECTION 'II : There . is hereby added an additional .defin:i.t.ion;
to Section 1-3502 of Title I (Administrative) of Ordinance No . 1628
entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the Citv of Renton" as
follows :
"Art" Application of skill and taste to produce an
esthetic result or application of materials , performance or skill
to produce beauty by imitation or design.
SECTION III : Existing subsection 1 of Section 1-3504
of Title. I (Administrative) of Ordinance No . 1628 entitled "Code
of General Ordinances of the City of Renton" is hereby amended to
read as follows :
Section 1-3504 1 . , as amended: The Commission shall be
responsible for determining the method of selection and commissioning
of artists for reviewing the design of, execution and placement of,
and acceptance of, works of art funded by this Ordinance, Pro-
cedures for these responsibilities shall be developed by the Commission
and shall become the policy of the Commission, and as such available
to the public upon request . The Commission shall establish proper
guidelines in writing and a copy thereof shall be filed with the
City Clerk of the City of Renton and furnished unto the office of
the Mayor and City Council, and such guidelines shall not be in full
force and effect until approved by the City Council .
SECTION IV: There is hereby added a new subsection to
Section 1-3504 of Title I (Administrative) of Ordinance No . 1628
entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton" as
follows :
Whenever a work of art is to be funded under this Ordinance
the Commission shall, under its guidelines, select the appropriate
word; of art and recommend that work of art to the City Council . The
City Council shall consider the recommendation of the Commission
and either approve or refuse to approve the recommended work of
art . Should the. Council refuse to approve the work of art , then
the Commission shall consider and recommend another work of art
to the City Council. Should the City Council approve the work
of art, then the Commission shall proceed, under its guidelines ,
to contract with the appropriate artist or artists to obtain that
work of art . .
SECTION V: This Ordinance shall be effective upon its
passage, approval and thirty (30) days after publication .
