AN ORDINANCE. OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON,
AMENDING A PORTION OF CHAPTER 35 OF TITLE I
(ADMINISTRATION) OF ORDINANCE NO. 1628 ENTITLED
"CODE OF GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
RENTON" RELATING TO THE MUNICIPAL ART FUND
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO
ORDAIN-AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I : Existing subsection (2) of Section 1-3502 , Title
I (Administration) of Ordinance No . 1628 entitled "Code of General
Ordinances of the City of Renton" is hereby amended as follows :
Section 1-3502 (2) , as amended : "Municipal Construction
Project" shall mean any project paid for wholly or in part by the City,
which payment exceeds ten thousand dollars ($10 ,000 . 00) to construct,
renovate or remodel any public building, decorative or commemorative
structure, park, street , sidewalk, parking facility , or any portion ,
thereof, within the City limits of the City.
"Municipal Construction Project" shall not be defined to
include capital projects paid for wholly or in part by the -City' s
Water and Sewer Utility, unless the City Council shall find that the
capital project as installed is accessible and generally frequented
by the general public .
SECTION II : Existing subsection (1) of Section 1-3503 , Title
I (Administration) of Ordinance No . 1628 entitled "Code of General
Ordinances of the City of Renton" is hereby amended as follows :
Section 1-3503 (1) , as amended : All authorizations and/or
appropriations for Municipal construction projects shall , whenever
legally permitted, include an amount equal to not less than one percent
(1%) of the actual total project cost, to be used for the selection,
acquisition and/or installation of works of art to be placed in, on ,
or about City public facilities , t which are suitable and appropriate
therefor. In the event any law, rule or regulation establishing a
source of funds for a particular project, including but not limiting it
to grants , loans , or assistance from Federal , State or other governmental
units, prohibits , limits or excludes art and art works as a proper
expenditure , then the amount of funds from such source shall be excluded
in computing the one percent (1%) amount of the "total project cost
SECTION III : This Ordinance shall be effective upon its
passage, approval and thirty (30) days after its publication.
