CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON
RESOLUTION NO. 2016
WHEREAS there are presently pending certain bills in the
1976 Special Session of the Washington State Legislature including
S.B. 2993 relating to an amendment to the State Sales Tax and
H.B. 1298 relating to Historic Properties - Public Projects , and
WHEREAS said bills have been duly considered by the City
Council of the City of Renton and it appearing that S.B. 2993
would be detrimental to the best interest of all cities and
counties in the State and have an adverse affect on their financial
condition, and
WHEREAS H. B. 1298 would further erode the "Home Rule
Authorities" of cities and result in an unwarranted interference
by a state agency in strictly local matters , NOW THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF RENTON AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I; The above findings are hereby found to be
true and correct in all respects.
The City of Renton hereby expresses its opposition to
S.B. 2993 and H. B. 1298 as not being in the best interest of the
City of Renton and other municipalities similarly situated.
SECTION II : The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed
to forward copies of said Resolution to the appropriate coulmittees
of the 1976 Special Session of the Washington State Legislature to
make them fully aware of the City' s position thereon.
