CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON
RESOLUTION NO. 2048
WHEREAS the City of Renton has heretofore been made aware
through the public media that Puget Sound Power and Light Company
has heretofore applied to the State of Washington Utilities and
Transportation Commission , Olympia, Washington, for a rate increase , and
WHEREAS it has been determined , upon due investigation and
all of the available evidence , that such proposed rate increase ,
if granted, would impose a heavy additional and unwarranted
financial burden on the City of Renton, especially in the cost of
its present street lighting inventory, and
WHEREAS any such proposed new tariff would not make any
allowance for adequate discounts whenever the City operates more
than 1 ,000 city-owned units , and
WHEREAS the City has heretofore conducted cost comparison
analysis involving both privately and publicly owned facilities
located in Western and Eastern Washington, and
WHEREAS it has been duly determined that any such proposed rate
increase ,requested by Puget Sound Power and Light is completely
unwarranted and excessive in relation to like services rendered
by other utilities , privately or publicly owned, NOW THEREFORE ,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I : The above findings and recitals are hereby found
and determined to be true and correct in all respects .
SECTION II : The City of Renton hereby earnestly requests
the State of Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission to
deny the requested increase in utility rates by the applicant ,
Puget Sound Power and Light Company; but in the event that any
increase should be granted by said Commission, then due regard should
including an energy only rate
be given to special rates for street lighting/and similar systems
owned and/or operated by municipalities , and especially in cases of
large city-owned units of street lighting equipment.

SECTION III : The City of Renton further joins and fully
ratifies the request of the City of Bellevue to oppose and reject
the requested rate increase by Puget Sound Power and Light Company.
The City of Renton further requests the Commission to
duly promulgate anorder whereby any such applicant be required
to furnish unto municipalities and other public bodies timely
advance notice of any such request for rate increases or adjustments
so that full and adequate opportunity is granted to such users
to duly study any requests and timely voice their opinions
thereon.
