I�� A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, URGING CONFEREES OF THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO PROCEDD WITH ALL DUE SPEED TO PRODUCE SUITABLE COMPROMISE WATER POLLUTION CONTROL LEGISLATION FQR ENACTMENT BEFORE THIS, THE SECOND SESSION OF THE 92ND CONGRESS, IS ADJOURNED. ,. WHEREAS the City of Renton is responsible for the health ancl �elfare of its ci.tizenry; and WHEREAS, in carrying out those responsibi.liti.es it is incum- , bent upon the City to provide for the collect.ion and delivery of sewage and other liquid wastes to the sewerage system operated by the Municipality of Metropolitan Seattle; and WHEREAS, the system operated by the City of Renton and the Municipality of Metropoli.tan Seattle must meet certain state standards and provide a degree of treatment which will insure that the health and welfare of its citizens and the quality of the receiving waters are pro-tected; and WHEREAS , it is necessary for the City of Renton and the Municipality of Metropolitan Seattle to undertake planning , design and construction in order to `meet"immediate st�te water pollution control and abatement requirements and pending federal requirements ; and WHEREAS ,pending water pollution control and abatement projects cannot. be undertaken until federal requi.rements are defined by law and federal financial assistance is provided for the planning , design and construction of these projects ; and WHEREAS, both houses of Congress have enacted legislation which would define federal water pollution control and abate�nent requirements and provide for �undi.ng the;�planning, design and construction of these projects ; and -i- � v a . . .. • � � a r . � , w + � ' WHEREAS, a Conference Committee of the U. S. Congress is currently worki,ng on a compromise version of the legislation previously �ass,ed �.n each house ; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTQN, WASHINGTON, AS FOLLQWS : SECTZON I : That the Council of the City of Renton urge the Confexence Com.mittee to proceed with all due speed to provide suitable comprom�.se water polluti.on control legislati,on for enactment before � this , the second. session of the 92nd .Congress , is adjourned, so that the City of Renton may adequately carry out i.ts responsibili.ties to protect the health and welfare of its citizens and the quality of the recei,ving waters in the metropoli.tan Seattle area.
