CITY OF RENY'�N
' RESOLUTION NO. 1817
WHEREAS , Initiative No. 258 has heretofore been certified
by the Secretary of State, State of Washi:ngton, and said Initiative
will be voted upon by the electorate on November � , 19.72,
authorizing the cities with a population in excess of 150 ,000 to ,
grant franchises for conducting Greyhound racing meets , and �
WHEREAS,. the City of Renton has duly considered the
consequences, economic, social and other, that would result from the
successful passage of such initiative measure, and
WHEREAS, the City has further. determined that any such
proposed legislation would be detrimental to the best interests of
the City of Renton and its citizens and that such proposed legislation,
in .its present form, is. discriminatory and arbitrary, .NOW THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF RENTON AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION�:� : The .above findings and recitals are hereby
f.ound to be tr.ue and correct in all respects .
SECTION II: The Gity of Re.riton hereby expresses its
opposition to progo�sed Initiative No. 258 authorizing certain cities
to provide franchising for the conduct of Greyhound racing meets and
therefore urges .its citizens and all others to .reject said Initiative
for the reasons hereinabove .st.ated .
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL this 18th day of .September, 1972 .
