ORDINANCE NO. 4 7 2 4
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON,
AMENDING CHAPTER 20, SIGN CODE, OF TITLE IV (BUILDING
REGULATIONS), OF ORDINANCE NO. 4260 ENTITLED "CODE OF
GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON"
BY ALLOWING ELECTRONIC MESSAGE BOARD SIGNS FOR AUTO
DEALERSHIPS LOCATED WITHIN THE AUTOMALL AREA.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. Section 4-20-2, Definitions and Abbreviations, of Chapter 20, Sign Code,
of Title IV (Building Regulations), of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances
of the City of Renton, Washington" is hereby amended by adding the following definition which
reads as follows:
ELECTROr]IC MESSAGE BOARD SIGN: Signs whose alphabetic, pictographic, or symbolic
informational content can be changed or altered on a fixed display screen composed of electrically
illuminated segments. I
SECTION II. Section 4-20-8.A.3 of Chapter 20, Sign Code, of Title IV (Building �
Regulations), of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City of Renton, �
Washington" is hereby amended to read as follows:
4-20-8.A.3: All of the following signs within seventy five feet (75') of the public right-
of-way with any of the following features: animated, revolving more than eight (8) revolutions I
per minute, blinking and flashing. Exceptions are public service signs, such as those which give
the time, temperature and/or humidity and electronic message board signs for car dealerships
located within Automall Areas A and B.

SECTION III. Subsection 4-20-12.C.6.a of Chapter 20, Sign Code, of Title IV
(Building Regulations), of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City
of Renton, Washington" is hereby amended to read as follows: '
a. Each motor vehicle dealership located within Automall Areas A and B is allowed:.
SECTION IV. Section 4-20-12.C.6.a of Chapter 20, Sign Code, of Title IV
(Building Regulations), of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City
of Renton, Washington" is hereby amended by adding the following subsection which reads as
follows:
(4) One electronic message board sign is permitted as a wall sign, under marquee sign, I
or freestanding sign as allowed by the provisions stated above.
SECTION V. Subsection 4-20-12.C.6.b of Chapter 20, Sign Code, of Title IV
(Building Regulations), of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the City
of Renton, Washington" is hereby amended to read as follows:
b. Each motor vehicle dealership located outside Automall Areas A and B is allowed:.
SECTION VI. This Ordinance shall be effective upon its passage, approval, and
thirty days after publication. I'
